Atypical paths of doctors: the case of career breaks

The objective of this study is to explore and better understand doctors who have made a career break. These are mainly doctors who have completed a significant first part of their career in research and/or teaching professions, and who have then made a 180° professional turn. This is a qualitative study based on 10 life stories of doctors who have held a position in the field of research/teaching for at least 10 years and who then branched off into a job and a professional field outside of research. and/or teaching.

This study aims to provide elements of understanding both on the forms taken by career breaks among doctors, but also to identify what are the determinants and how doctors mobilize the skills acquired in the context of their experience. research in their current professional situation.
